Plastic surgery blepharoplasty is a popular procedure done to address different cosmetic eye concerns including those caused by ageing. Artiste Plastic Surgery shares the most common reasons why patients choose to undergo the surgery:
Droopy Eyelid
Droopy eyelids are caused by weak levator muscles. These are responsible for raising the eyelids and for creating double eyelids. While some people are naturally born with weak levator muscles, most patients find that their levator muscles weaken through wear and tear over time, resulting in droopy eyelids.
Droopy eyelids can be both a cosmetic and medical concern, as they cause a slight asymmetry between the eyes and can affect your vision and normal activities. Fortunately, in most cases, eyelid blepharoplasty is enough to lift the upper eyelids and address the issue.
Choosing the right surgeon for this operation is crucial, as the eyelids cannot be lifted too high as this can result in eye closure. Moisture can easily escape your eyes, which can lead to corneal problems.
Eye Puffiness
Eye puffiness can be caused by a number of factors including water accumulation in the capillaries. This is most often observable after a night of crying. However, if you find yourself constantly suffering from puffy eyes, these can be because of fat pad migration or fat accumulation underneath your eyes.
Eye Bags
Unlike eye puffiness, eye bags occur when the fat tissue behind the lower eyelids bulge forward as the membrane holding it back weakens with age. Surgery can remove eye bags by repositioning the protruding fat and removing excess skin under the eyes. In some cases, however, removing the skin is not advised to prevent the lower eyelid from turning out after the surgery.
Under-Eye Darkness
Under-eye darkness can be quite difficult to treat, as it usually has more than one cause. Having thin skin, which allows the blood vessels to become more visible, is one. Another is increased hemoglobin deposits under the eye. Melanin banding, or natural pigmentation patterning, is also a common reason. All these, however, can be worsened by sun damage so it’s important to invest in proper sun protection.
