Breast Reconstruction Surgery
Breast reconstruction is restoring the breast in all its dimensions to as close as normal as possible after breast cancer mastectomy.
What can be achieved?
Recovering from Breast Cancer
Breast cancer affects 1 in 10 women and presents the patient with enormous challenges as they go through mastectomy surgery, chemotherapy and often radiotherapy. Dr Jack Zoumaras works alongside breast surgeons in a multi-disciplinary clinic to offer the patient breast reconstructive surgery after the cancer is treated. This may be performed either immediately or delayed.
Dr Jack Zoumaras is highly trained and skilled in all techniques of breast reconstruction including the gold standard TRAM/DIEP reconstruction, expander/implant reconstruction and latisimmus dorsi with implant reconstruction.
Breast Reconstruction TECHNIQUES
A TRAM or DIEP is the gold standard in Breast Reconstruction and involves harvesting the abdominal skin and fat and parts of the rectus muscle if necessary attached to blood vessels. This flap of tissue is then transplanted to the chest and sculpted to a breast. The closure of the abdomen results in the benefits of an abdominoplasty.
The procedure will be illustrated in detail and you will be given a detailed instruction sheet on expected post-operative course and potential complications during your consultation with Dr Jack Zoumaras.
It is recommended that you are a stable weight for at least 3-6 months to obtain the best possible results.
It is advised to stop smoking at least 6 weeks before and after surgery.
