While plastic surgery neck lift can be an effective way to remove excess skin and fat from the neck, many are hesitant due to concerns about the potential risks and side effects. A plastic surgery neck lift removes excess skin and fat and tightening underlying muscles.Â
Feeling some tightness in your neck after surgery is normal. There may also be bruising after surgery. This occurs because the skin has been lifted, and the muscles and tissues have been tightened, leading to some initial discomfort. Fortunately, this sensation should gradually ease over the coming weeks or months.
Keep an open line with your surgeon, communicating with them your concerns and other discomfort you may experience post-surgery.
Recovering from Tightness and Swelling After a Neck Lift Surgery
Every patient is different and can experience different levels of tightness and swelling. The following is a general guide to what you can expect during your recovery:
1-2 Days After Surgery
It’s natural for patients to feel disoriented from the anesthesia and experience tightness and discomfort in the neck area. While in the clinic, they may be positioned upright to minimise swelling and bruising.
1 Week After Surgery
In the days following the operation, swelling and bruising may begin to subside, but it’s important to remain cautious during this period. The surgeon may prescribe painkillers, but it depends on their advice and your pain tolerance.
2-3 Weeks After Surgery
Initially, patients may experience some tightness, during the first two weeks. During this recovery period, patients might also notice skin sensations returning and experience tingling in their arms.
Full Recovery
Scarring may take up to 18 months to fully heal. Patients should not be concerned if they experience tightness and numbness in the neck after a neck lift, as these sensations can persist for over a year.
These symptoms are normal as the body heals and should resolve naturally. If you experience any distressing symptoms, please consult your surgeon for further assistance.
If you’re considering a neck lift procedure, it’s essential to gather detailed information and ensure you feel fully informed before making any decisions.
Consultations offer an opportunity to discuss your goals, understand potential benefits, and explore the possible risks involved. Neck lift is a significant choice, and being confident in your decision is vital.
If you’re feeling unsure or need further clarification, take the time to speak openly with your surgeon.
