Skin

The Skin is the largest organ of the body and serves many functions from immunity, protection from physical insults, and non-visible insults (UV radiation) and it is part of the physiology of homeostasis of the body as a whole.

The skin varies in many ways from its location; the face, back, palm of the hand and sole of the foot.

As a Specialist Plastic Surgeon, Dr Jack Zoumaras has a deep knowledge of the anatomy of the skin, and offer comprehensive skin care to complement our facial surgical procedures.

The skin consists of two major layers the Epidermis and Dermis:

The epidermis is the outer part of the skin that can contain up to 7 layers. The base layer is where the basal cells (skin cells) originate and as the cells migrate up they become squamous cells. Present in the epidermis are melanocytes which contribute to the pigment of the skin secreting the protein melanin. The top layer of the skin only contains keratin (a protein) and no living cells.
In the dermis, the blood vessels, nerves, hair follicles and specialised glands are present. Amongst these structures exist the important collagen and elastic fibres that give skin its softness and structure. The dermis is further divided into a reticular and papillary layers and these layers give the thickness to skin.

As we age, we lose volume in skin This is a result of dehydration and poor skin care. The elastic fibres loosen and the collagen fibres change to the point that the skin loses its strength. The epidermis undergoes sun damage and the skin cells can cause pigmentation issues, raised moles and sun spots. This results in loose skin, increased wrinkles and pigmentation changes.

Good skin care and skin care methods such as re-surfacing techniques can improve the texture and pigmentation of skin. A facelift or eyelid surgery will remove and tighten the skin. A Facelift at Artiste Plastic Surgery is always performed with finesse, in an elegant way as Dr Jack Zoumaras understands and respects the underlying anatomy, and it will ensure that your skin looks youthful, rejuvenated and and not pulled or fake.

Non Surgical Facelift

A non-surgical facelift aims to reverse ageing related changes with filler, threads, platelet rich plasma (PRP) and energy devices. It is important to understand the anatomy of the ageing process to understand that while these treatments have benefits they are limited in what they can do.

Liquid Facelift

A Liquid facelift involves using filler (synthetically manufactured sugar) to fill facial lines and lift the face. The anatomy of ageing results in loose skin, jowls, deep folds and shadows. The ligaments hold up the face and can be compared to a scaffold. As the ligaments (scaffolds) fall, the overlying skin, fat and muscle falls. Using filler can lift the face indirectly by propping up the ligaments much like a sand bag can be used to hold up and support a scaffold.
For a liquid facelift at Artiste Plastic Surgery, 5 – 8 mls of filler are used to fill and lift the face.

Vampire Facelift

A vampire facelift involves taking blood from you and separating the blood to contain the Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) by centrifuge. The PRP is rich in rejuvenating factors that are healing to your skin. Multiple treatments need to be performed for the best result.
During a Facelift Dr Jack Zoumaras uses structural fat grafting as this process allows the use of stem cells to support the dermis of skin and lifts and results in a more powerful Facelift, with luminosity and rejuvenation.

Facelift with Threading

A Facelift with threading is a popular procedure amongst my colleagues to lift the face as opposed to a Surgical Facelift. The anatomy of the face and the layers do not change from individual to individual, however the consistency of each layer is different in each individual. Threading can be dangerous as it is a blind technique that can inadvertently cause injury to the facial nerve, and cause skin distortion and tethering even in skilled hands. This is because the procedure is blind. It is often temporary and can only address certain aspects of the face.

As an Elite Professional Practice, and due to the adverse risk profile, Artiste Plastic Surgery and Dr Jack Zoumaras Specialist Facelift Plastic Surgeon, does not offer thread lifting as a modality for a non surgical Facelift.
