3 Things About Rhinoplasty Surgeries

Rhinoplasty, sometimes referred to as a “nose reshaping” procedure, may be chosen by individuals for various personal reasons, which can include functional or aesthetic goals.

While some seek rhinoplasty to address certain breathing issues or to alter the appearance of the nose, reasons vary and any cosmetic procedure carries inherent risks and considerations.

Here are three important aspects to consider before exploring rhinoplasty further, particularly if you’re researching options in Sydney.

1. Rhinoplasty Options

When considering rhinoplasty, it’s crucial to discuss your unique facial structure, health background, and goals with a qualified surgeon. A few of the options that may compel someone to seek a rhinoplasty are concerns regarding nasal asymmetry or contour.

Rhinoplasty techniques can be tailored based on individual anatomy, but the outcomes and processes vary, and a thorough consultation with a specialist can help clarify what may be achievable.

At Artiste Plastic Surgery, Dr. Jack Zoumaras can discuss different rhinoplasty approaches with patients, including secondary (or revision) rhinoplasty or approaches that consider certain anatomical distinctions, to provide information about potential options within a supportive, medically informed environment.

2. Possible Surgery Risks

As with any surgery, there are some risks involved with rhinoplasty, including infection, bleeding, bruising, scarring, difficulty in breathing, poor wound healing and skin discolouration.

Rhinoplasty also includes specific risks and complications related to nasal structure and function. For example, post-operative issues may include changes in breathing, discomfort due to nasal blockage, numbness, or swelling that can vary depending on the techniques used, such as osteotomies (bone cuts) to reshape the nasal bridge.

Rare but serious risks like infection near the sinus region, damage to surrounding tissues, and changes in skin sensation are also possible.

Open rhinoplasty may result in minimal scarring and become less noticeable over time. For Closed rhinoplasty, scars will not be visible since they are concealed within the nose. That’s why it’s important to consult with your surgeon to discuss possible risks and manage your expectations.

3. Recovery

Most patients will be able to return home after the nose job surgery. However, you may need someone to drive you to and from the hospital and assist you at home for a few days. A splint may be placed internally or externally to the nose to hold the nasal structures in place for proper healing for 7 to 10 days.

Patients should also refrain from strenuous activities for several weeks or until the doctor has cleared them. The expected downtime and near-full recovery can take 14 days.

During the initial healing phase, patients are advised to avoid strenuous activities for several weeks, as recommended by their surgeon.

While some initial recovery may occur within two weeks, it’s important to note that rhinoplasty recovery can be an extended process, with subtle changes in swelling and nasal contour potentially taking up to a year to fully resolve.

Each recovery is unique, and following post-operative instructions is essential for safe outcomes. If you have further questions about a nose job in Sydney, reach out to  Dr Jack Zoumaras from Artiste Plastic Surgery.
