A neck lift surgery may provide noticeable results but it’s important for one to have a clear understanding of its potential risks and limitations. Like any surgical procedure, a neck lift requires careful consideration and preparation.
We explore some potential concerns that may be associated with neck lift surgery.
Age
Advanced age may factor into surgical outcomes, it’s not the only consideration when determining the suitability of invasive procedures like a neck lift. The decision is more about the patient’s overall health and readiness.
Older patients may have additional risks due to factors like slower healing or pre-existing conditions, but these are things the surgeon will evaluate during a comprehensive consultation.
Unrealistic Expectations
A neck lift may achieve results such as a tighter-looking neck area, but it is not a cure-all for the signs of ageing. Over time, the skin and underlying structures will continue to age, meaning the results, while long-lasting, are not permanent.
Patients sometimes expect a neck lift to provide a “perfect” neck or resolve all signs of ageing in one procedure. This mindset often sets them up for unrealistic expectations.
It is important to have an open and honest discussion with your surgeon about what a neck lift can realistically achieve.
Visible Scarring
Since a neck lift is an invasive procedure, scarring is expected. However, an experienced and qualified surgeon may be able to carefully place incisions in discreet areas, like under the chin or around the ears. Scars may fade significantly over time, but remember that some level of scarring is always possible.
Patients may be able to gain reassurance by reviewing before-and-after photos of previous neck lift surgeries performed by their chosen surgeon. This may provide insight into the surgeon’s technique and results, and help set realistic expectations.
