When considering cosmetic surgery, including rhinoplasty, you should be aware not only of the preparation before the nose job surgery but also of the post-operative care involved in the procedure. The recovery usually takes up to two weeks for a near-full recovery. Most patients return to work or university after the second week.
To minimise bleeding or swelling and ensure a smooth recovery, Ariste Plastic Surgery shares the things you need to avoid after a nose job.
Strenuous activities
Your surgeon will advise you to refrain from strenuous activities, including running, lifting heavy weights, exercises, swimming, contact sports and other physical activities, for several weeks or until you are cleared to return to your regular activities.
Blowing your nose
Your nasal passages are a bit fragile after your rhinoplasty. That’s why you should resist the urge to blow or sniff through your nose, especially during the first few weeks after the procedure. In cases where you catch the flu and your nose is running, gently dab it with a soft tissue.
Touching or bumping the nose
After a nose job surgery, avoid touching, hitting or bumping your nose to reduce the risks of misaligning the bones. You will be wearing a splint to protect the nose, and it is advised to avoid contact for up to six weeks as the nose heals.
Sun exposure
To avoid skin discolouration or other complications, your surgeon will advise you to stay out of the sun after your procedure. It is recommended to always sunscreen and a hat when heading out.
Smoking
Patients will be advised to stop smoking a few weeks before and after the surgery. This could be challenging for some patients. However, smoking can reduce your blood flow, affecting your overall recovery.
Like in any other plastic surgery, the preparation and recovery for a nose job in Sydney can be overwhelming. However, choosing a trusted surgeon can help you understand the procedure better and minimise risks.
