If you are considering cosmetic surgery, including rhinoplasty, understanding both pre-procedure preparation and post-procedure care is essential. Recovery timelines and care requirements vary, and personalised advice from a qualified health practitioner can guide you through the process.
In this blog, we share general information of things to avoid after a rhinoplasty procedure. To support recovery and manage potential concerns such as swelling or discomfort, it’s important to follow your practitioner’s recommendations. For personalised guidance tailored to your situation, consult with a qualified professional.
Strenuous activities
Your surgeon will advise you to refrain from strenuous activities, including running, lifting heavy weights, exercises, swimming, contact sports and other physical activities, for several weeks or until you are cleared to return to your regular activities.
Blowing your nose
Your nasal passages are a bit fragile after your rhinoplasty. That’s why you should resist the urge to blow or sniff through your nose, especially during the first few weeks after the procedure. In cases where you catch the flu and your nose is running, gently dab it with a soft tissue.
Touching or bumping the nose
After a nose job surgery, avoid touching, hitting or bumping your nose to reduce the risks of misaligning the bones. You will be wearing a splint to protect the nose.
Sun exposure
To avoid skin discolouration or other complications, your surgeon may advise you to stay out of the sun after your procedure. It is recommended to always use sunscreen and a hat when heading out.
Smoking
Patients will be advised to stop smoking a few weeks before and after the surgery. This could be challenging for some patients. However, smoking can reduce your blood flow, affecting your overall recovery.
Like in any other plastic surgery, the preparation and recovery for a rhinoplasty surgery can be overwhelming. However, choosing a trusted surgeon can help you understand the procedure better and help minimise risks.
