Facelift and Exercise: How to Resume Your Fitness Routine After Surgery

Model featured in photography

As you embark on this transformative journey, it’s essential to know how to resume your fitness routine after cosmetic surgery, such as a facelift. While exercise is an important aspect of a healthy lifestyle, it’s crucial to give your body ample time to heal and recover.

In this blog, Artiste Plastic Surgery will discuss the best time to resume exercising after a facelift and provide valuable tips for a smooth recovery.

Understanding the Recovery Process

Your surgeon will provide specific instructions based on your unique situation, but generally, it takes several weeks for the initial swelling and bruising to subside. It’s important to have patience during the recovery period and listen to your body. Pushing yourself too hard too soon can hinder the healing process and potentially lead to complications.

Exercise Timeline After Facelift Surgery

Before resuming any exercise regimen, consult your surgeon to ensure you’re ready and receive personalised advice.

Days 1 to 3 Post-Facelift:

During the initial days following your facelift surgery, it’s crucial to prioritise rest and allow your body to heal. Light activities promoting blood circulation can be beneficial, such as short walks around your home. However, avoid any strenuous exercises or activities that could strain your facial muscles.

Weeks 1 to 3 Post-Facelift:

Most patients stop their pain medication around this time. However, strenuous activities, bouncing or jarring movements are still not allowed. You may continue doing light cardio exercises such as walking around the house for about 15 minutes and gradually increasing to 30 minutes as you feel better.

Around 4 Weeks After the Facelift:

Around one-month post-facelift, bruising and swelling will mostly be gone, and you can resume most of your usual activities. If your surgeon approves, you can engage in moderate cardio exercises like walking, jogging or cycling slowly on a stationary bike. However, keep mindful of facial muscle strain and avoid high-impact activities.

Around 6 Weeks Post-Facelift:

By the six-week mark, most patients have made significant progress in their recovery. You can continue to increase the intensity and duration of your workouts, gradually returning to your pre-surgery activity. However, if your surgeon feels you’re healing slowly, you might need to avoid working out for another two weeks. This is normal because each patient has a different recovery journey.
